The Westboro Baptist Church are an extremist church. The Church was founded in 1955. It is headed by the minister Fred Phelps and his family. Phelps was born in Mississippi and is a disbarred lawyer and a former civil rights activist. While studying at John Muir College he would preach against "sins committed on campus by students and teachers." During his time as a lawyer he fought many cases in favour of race equality. However Fred Phelps does not believe that everyone is equal. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church are strongly opposed to Homosexuality. The website itself is called 'God Hates Fags', the WBC often picket the funerals of American military personal and claim that god hates America because of homosexuality. Their website contains schedules for picketing, anti-gay propaganda and bible quotes that they claim are anti-gay. I think the WBC define American faith because America has so many religions and denominations and the WBC represents how these facets of a religion can become extremist.
